Dark Sun Cleric Spells



Clerics in Dark Sun follow elemental forces instead of deities. From this allegiance, they receive spells divided into Elemental Spheres. They also receive more general cleric spells (grouped under the Sphere of the Cosmos) but it is their elemental spells that give Dark Sun clerics their unique flavour.


In the original 2e version of Dark Sun, however, the elemental spell lists were a little uneven – there weren’t always very many spells at each level and some levels didn’t have any spells at all! In the original Dark Sun boxed set, for example, there are no 1st-level Elemental Air spells, no 4th-level Elemental Earth spells, and no 7th-level Elemental Water spells. Later Dark Sun products improved this situation somewhat, and enterprising DMs could always find spells from other sources, but it remained somewhat uneven.


Today’s blog fleshes out the spell lists for Dark Sun elemental clerics – including paraelemental clerics – and provides a complete set of Dark Sun-specific cleric spells in a pdf at the end of the blog. By design, not every Sphere has the same number of spells at each level – Elemental Rain and Elemental Water generally have fewer spells than other Spheres, to represent the desolate nature of Athas. And there could probably be a couple more spells in the Elemental Sun Sphere, to be honest. But these lists should give you a solid foundation to build on for your own Dark Sun games.
